A Maryland man named George W. Cook, aged 59, was arrested for setting a Domino’s store on fire in Westminster, Maryland. This incident occurred after he was caught breaking into a vehicle at a nearby auto repair shop. The Office of the State Fire Marshal reported that Cook set fire to the back of the Domino’s store on Baltimore Blvd. early on a Saturday morning. Firefighters quickly responded to the scene and were able to contain the fire within minutes. The Office of the State Fire Marshal was called in to investigate the incident further.
During the investigation, it was revealed that a witness had seen Cook breaking into vehicles at the auto repair shop and reported this to the investigators. A trooper immediately responded and detained Cook as he was entering a vehicle. It was later discovered that Cook had a history of setting small fires within the city limits. These previous fires were similar to the one at Domino’s, involving the use of feces placed in bags or boxes and set on fire.
Additionally, it was reported that Cook had caused trouble at the Domino’s store earlier in the week when he became belligerent after being refused free food. He kicked over a trash can before being instructed to leave by employees. As a result of his actions, Cook has been charged with second-degree arson, first- and second-degree malicious burning, and malicious destruction of property over $1,000. The Westminster Police Department also charged him with rogue and vagabond and theft under $100.
Currently, Cook is being held without bond at the Carroll County Detention Center. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety and the consequences of engaging in criminal activities. It also highlights the swift response and coordination between law enforcement agencies in handling such incidents to ensure public safety and bring perpetrators to justice.
