The Youth Department of the Malgrat de Mar City Council (Maremse) is launching a pilot test this summer, called the Dragonfly Festival, which aims to welcome the creativity of young people, promote alternative nightlife and promote critical artistic consumption.
Plaza Moguer, one of the spaces most used by young people from Malgrat, will host the Dragonfly, which will have two sessions: one on June 15 and the other on July 19. The festival will mix music with local DJs, performances by young local artists and dance performances. The Colla de Diables Ratpenatsinfernals and the Agrupament Escolta i Guia Sant Nicolau will participate.
The Joventut councilor, Jordi Farré, presented the Dragonfly Festival at a press conference, held in Plaza Moguer. This is a pilot test that arises from the desire to offer a space for young people from Malgrat to generate artistic content and at the same time have an alternative for nightlife.
“We are in Plaza Moguer, which is one of the meeting points for young people, to present a festival that came from young people and is for young people,” said Farré at the beginning of the press conference, where he I would like to highlight that the objectives of the new cultural proposal for young people are to encourage their critical consumption, in a healthy environment and with the involvement of the Malgrat de Mar youth entities.
The festival will be held on two days: June 15 and July 19 in Plaza Moguer. The first session will offer a performance by Slum DJ Albert, hip-hop dancers and the young heavy singer Laia Soto. The second will include Jorge Peñafiel and Slum DJ Albert. In both sessions there will be performances by local artist Ainoa Giménez, in which young people will be able to print t-shirts. There will also be a sheet metal workshop.
The Colla de Diables Ratpenatsinfernals will offer a tabalada to open the festival sessions and the Agrupament Escolta will take charge of the bar, where alcohol will not be served. There will also be a Punt lila to support and accompany the victim in cases of aggression and that will act in defense of a space free of sexist and LGBTIphobic violence. In addition, the RULA intermunicipal service will be present to offer information and care on drug and alcohol consumption.
The press conference also served to present the festival poster, the work of young local artists Ainoa Giménez, a Fine Arts graduate, and Bernat Ferriol, a Marketing student. They have explained that they wanted to make “a vibrant and festival graphic proposal.” “The dragonfly is a symbol of artistic creation for its ability to adapt, evolve, and reinvent itself,” said Ainoa Giménez.
