Eastbound Interstate 70 is currently closed between Silverthorne and Georgetown due to a tractor-trailer fire and multiple crashes, as reported by the Colorado State Patrol. The closure was put in place at 1:20 p.m. and there is no estimated time for when the highway will reopen, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The tractor-trailer caught fire near Georgetown, leading to several crashes with multiple injuries. One of the crashes involved five vehicles, including a tractor-trailer, and resulted in three people being taken to the hospital for injuries. While the injuries are not believed to be serious, officials have warned that the clean-up process will be extensive.
In the meantime, drivers are advised to take a detour over Loveland Pass via U.S. 6, as the closure is expected to last for an unknown duration. This is a developing situation and more updates will be provided as they become available.
