Nowadays, when you go to a restaurant and ask for water, there can be three possible cases: that the waiter serves you natural mineral water, that they offer you tap water, or that it is filtered tap water. However, for these last two types, the packaging in which it is presented may raise doubts about its origin and the price that the customer will pay. A Metroscopia survey for the Water and Health Research Institute (IIAS) reflects that 90% of consumers want to know more about this data.
Natural mineral water is served in a hermetically sealed bottle where the type is indicated on the label. In the case of tap water, this is usually served in a glass or a jug, while that which is filtered on-site is usually presented in a very similar container. Given this situation, the study revealed that only one in six people knows that the water they are consuming is filtered tap water and that they will be charged.
The results, in turn, showed that there is a great refusal to pay for this type of water, given that 80% of customers responded that they would not want to pay for it.
The form also took into account the opinion of respondents about the quality and food safety of water in the hospitality industry, and despite the fact that in Spain all tap water is technically drinkable, 75% of them recognized that the natural mineral is the one they consider safest.
Agua mineral natural
This type of water is that which is underground, is extracted from the spring and is completely pure, as explained by the OCU in a statement. One of the characteristics that makes it unique is that its composition, which depends on the area, does not change and does not need to be chemically treated to be consumed.
Tap water
Tap water is water that comes from various places, both underground and surface, and that has been chemically treated to make it drinkable.
Filtered tap water
It is the same as the previous one, but this one has been subjected to more filtering in the same restaurant.
