Dermatitis in dogs is a skin condition that causes itching, itching, stinging, and often pain. Although any dog ??is susceptible to dermatitis, some breeds are more predisposed, such as the French bulldog, boxer, German shepherd, golden retriever, poodle, Labrador retriever, setter, and Dalmatian.

The severity, symptoms and care will depend on the type and causes of your dermatitis. Knowing how to recognize it is essential to go to the vet on time, who will guide the appropriate treatment to remedy it.

It occurs in response to an allergic reaction on the part of the dog, which can derive from multiple factors, such as exposure to pollen, mites, an insect bite -especially fleas-, some food intolerance, allergy to a product such as its shampoo or the antiparasitic collar…

Its main symptoms are intense itching, accompanied by redness and dryness of the skin and the appearance of pimples or pustules. As a consequence, the dog does not stop scratching and licking the affected areas.

To remedy it, you must first determine the cause of the allergy. It will be necessary to deworm it, remove products recently introduced into its routine, as well as confirm that it does not have an intolerance to any food in its diet.

Depending on the root of the problem, the vet may prescribe the use of hypoallergenic shampoos, a certain diet, or the use of medications to soothe itching. It is also advisable not to take the dog for a walk in the hours with the highest incidence of pollen, to vacuum the house often and to wash its bed frequently.

It is very similar to the previous one, only that it is produced by establishing physical contact with a substance that irritates your skin. It is also frequent for its antiparasitic shampoo or collar, as well as for cleaning products, disinfectants, chlorine, etc.

It is manifested by inflammation and redness of the skin, which becomes hard and dry. Also, scabs appear and cause the animal a lot of itching. To remedy it, it will be necessary to keep the dog away from the substance that has harmed it and, on occasions, an oral or topical treatment to relieve the itching.

It consists of an excess production of fat in the dog’s skin to combat any aggression. It is common for it to arise if the dog is bathed too much, although it can also be due to allergies, a poor diet or derive from another disease or disorder.

These sebum secretions are accompanied by an unpleasant odor and to cure it, it will be appropriate to use a specific anti-inflammatory, delicate and hypoallergenic shampoo. A change in your diet and some treatment with medication may also be necessary depending on the cause.

There are other less frequent types of dermatitis in dogs such as fungal dermatitis, which may be due to a drop in their defenses or a lack of hygiene in certain areas, especially in the case of dogs with wrinkles and folds on their skin.

Acral licking dermatitis or acute moist dermatitis can also occur, the causes of which are varied and are very painful for the dog.
