Brighton Manager Search: Henrik Rydstrom and Fabian Hurzeler Among Contenders
The search for the next manager of Brighton continues, with Malmo boss Henrik Rydstrom and St Pauli coach Fabian Hurzeler emerging as top contenders. The club is expected to make a decision within the next week after announcing Roberto De Zerbi’s departure at the end of the Premier League season.
According to BBC Sport, Rydstrom and Hurzeler are among the names being considered for the position. Rydstrom currently leads his team to the top of the Swedish league, while Hurzeler, a 31-year-old US-born coach, successfully guided St Pauli to the German second division title last season.
Brighton’s owner Tony Bloom and chief executive Paul Barber have been actively involved in the search process, which is now in its final stages. Despite a preferred choice potentially emerging soon, the club may take some time before officially confirming an appointment, especially if the selected manager is currently with another club.
Compensation and the need for a Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) for overseas coaches are also factors to consider in the decision-making process. Barber previously expressed the club’s commitment to thorough succession planning, revealing that they have been evaluating three or four potential candidates simultaneously to minimize risks associated with a managerial change.
