Ban on Okada in Delta State: Police Issue Warning to Riders
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, has issued a stern warning to Okada riders, stating that the ban on motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, is indeed real. He emphasized that the Delta State Government has ordered that any impounded bikes will be crushed.
In a series of tweets, Edafe reiterated the seriousness of the enforcement of the ban, urging Okada riders to secure their bikes as he will not be able to intervene once they are impounded. The directive to ban Okada was announced by the Secretary to the State Government, Kingsley Emu, during a press briefing following the State Council Meeting presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on May 24.
The decision to ban Okada was made in response to the rise in crime associated with Okada usage and the prevalent cases of vandalism. Strict enforcement of the ban is set to commence on June 1, with severe consequences for violators.
As the Delta State Government takes a firm stance on the ban of Okada, riders are urged to comply with the regulations to avoid facing the consequences of having their bikes impounded and crushed.
