People are being reminded that influencers could be annoying.
Over the past year, tourist destinations have struggled due to the coronavirus. But as the pandemic winds down, many of these areas are happily welcoming back visitors and guests .
But it’s not merely vacationers that are returning — influencers and pranksters will also be traveling and they’re bringing problems together.
The nation, that heavily relies on tourism, is trusting that vacationers feel comfortable returning, but some high-profile stunts have officials worried that the island’s reputation is going to be hurt.
During the lockdown, Indonesia enabled travelers to remain for longer amounts of time, assuming they followed the local health regulations. Some high-profile stunts, including a prank by a YouTuber that involved a fake face mask, suggest that travellers might not be respecting those guidelines, yet.
According to the news outlet, many high-profile influencers have been deported from the country (like the person behind the fake mask prank).
Neighborhood politician Niluh Djelantik spoke with The Guardian and said many of these stunts included breaking the wellness guidelines laid out by the local government. According to him, he considers that Bali should maintain an image that it is secure, which its low amount of COVID-19 cases would suggest.
Regrettably, he continued, stunts that involve breaking health constraints may give the impression that the island isn’t as secure as it actually is.
