The Calisay Cultural Center of Arenys de Mar will host the sixth edition of the International Fair of Puntas de Arenys de Mar from Friday 26 to Sunday 28 April. The multitudinous event of the typical traditional local crafts of the area, which has passed from mothers to daughters, will open its doors at 4pm on the 26th and the official opening of the event will be at 7.30pm.
This event is a good opportunity to learn about work that is being done in Europe in terms of bobbin lace, both contemporary and traditional work, in addition to being able to acquire special patterns and threads for the production of the product.
In this edition of the contest, there will be the participation of lacemakers from various European places and countries, such as Galicia, France, Malta, Poland, Italy, Belgium, Slovakia and Bulgaria, who will share space with the most representative schools and associations of Catalonia, among them the Catalan Puntaires Association, the Flor de Alba de Arenys de Mar Puntaires Association, the Arenys de Munt Puntaires Association, the Verge del Remei Puntaires, the Barcelona Puntaires School, the Girona Puntaires and the Museum of tree
The City Council and the Arenys de Mar Museum organize the event, which has the collaboration of the Flor d’Alba lace makers association, the Generalitat of Catalonia and the Singulars program. During the three days of the fair, various activities will be held, such as lace workshops from Slovakia and Poland, demonstrations and sales of products related to lace.
There will also be activities in other spaces such as the Marès Museum, where you can see the exhibition “Vestides de Negre” about the color black in clothing; the Calisay Exhibition Hall, where the exhibition “Decorats en puntes” by the Flor de Alba Puntaires Association will be held; and in the premises of the same entity on Calle de la Iglesia 35, where there will be an exhibition of the work of the Arenys de Mar lace makers.
The event coincides, on Sunday, April 28, with the annual meeting of ‘puntaires’ of Arenys de Mar, which will take place in the stream, in front of Calisay, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with the participation of more than 400 people.
