“I’m a waiter in Spain. And, yes, when you ask me for a decaf, many times I give it to you with caffeine.” That is the phrase from a hospitality worker that has generated a stir among TikTok users.

In a video on this social network, the waiter listed some of the uncomfortable situations he has to face every day and his thoughts when he hears each of them. Among them, when a customer asks for a decaffeinated coffee. Even if it is something explicit, he acknowledges, it does not always comply with the user’s wishes.

And that confession has generated a great controversy on social networks. Many TikTok users understand that this is a relevant issue, since it affects people’s health. For example, this lack of transparency can be harmful, especially for people with heart problems or pregnant women.

This waiter’s words have prompted many to record a replica video. “What surprises me most about the video is not only that this person says it openly, but also the number of comments from people who supposedly work in cafeterias or any type of restaurant establishment,” user @__sorayagonzalez responds.

“Are you aware of what you are doing? You are playing with people’s lives and health,” continues this young woman, who remembers that, when someone makes an express request to a waiter, “many times it is not on a whim.” If so, she continues, “your obligation is to serve the coffee as they ask for it.”

But this user has also been showered with criticism, asking her to put herself “in the waiters’ shoes” and what they have to endure daily from customers.

In his opinion, the workload or precarious working conditions do not exempt these people from their responsibility when serving a client. “Who you have to charge against is the government and your bosses. Not against us,” she concludes in another video.
