Summer is approaching and, with it, the high season in tourism that makes hospitality businesses need more staff. Given this situation, the reference waiter on social networks Abraham Galera Cano – @ abrigaca, with 260 thousand followers on Instagram and 770 on TikTok – has published a video where he shares the keys to learning how to be a professional waiter.

Although their advice is intended to help people find (and keep) a job and be a good waiter, the debate has been opened in the comments section.

Abraham begins his video by stating that “anyone can start being a waiter, but staying and being the best is not within everyone’s reach.” Under this premise, he compiles his three key points “so that you can be the best waiter this summer, even if it is your first time as a waiter.”

First of all, he emphasizes that “the first thing you have to have to be a suitable waiter is attitude, with one hour after you come I know if you are going to be suitable or not suitable for the job, whether you have experience or not” . “These kids who are like this waiting behind the bar for you to tell them what task they have to do are of no use to me, be the ones who have the intention, the interest to learn,” he adds.

The second point is “save trips by having a better view, we are going to take advantage of each of the trips we make around the room, we are going to always go with our heads held high, we pick up a table, we serve a table, and on the way to our destination we always You have to recognize all the tables, you have to have a general map of how the bar is at all times.” He explains that we must “always optimize our trips with our heads up, there is always a client waiting for you to look at them to raise their hand.”

Finally, he insists on the importance of “always showing sympathy, whether the client is right or not, always being pleasant.”

In the comments section, some applaud and thank @abrigaca for advice. However, many other people have taken advantage of the occasion to fuel the debate about the job of waiter. “All that is very good, but it is not paid as it deserves,” laments one user.

“No matter how much you want to, no matter how nice you are, in the end someone comes along who ruins your day. We Spaniards are very bad customers,” laments another person. “It’s difficult to be the best waiter if they don’t pay you a decent salary,” adds another.

There are also those who point out that “the art of the waiter has been lost, it is not only friendliness, you have to have elegance and professionalism, something that has been lost today.”
