Kankakee Police Chief Robin Passwater stated that officers had arrested two men and found “multiple” firearms at the scene, including one long-range gun.
Two men in their 20s were killed by bullets. The third victim is currently undergoing surgery. Passwater stated this during a Thursday news conference.
He said that officers were sent to the courthouse to respond to a shot fired call at 9:50 AM. Kankakee County Sheriff Mike Downey stated earlier to WGN TV that the shooting took place between the courthouse & the county jail.
Passwater didn’t talk about the possible motives for the shooting, and he did not answer any questions.
Kankakee, a community of approximately 26,000 people, is located 60 miles (100 km) south of Chicago.
