One of the most mythical thrillers with erotic overtones of the last century was Fatal Attraction. The successful family man and publisher seduced an attractive woman while his wife was away. Their torrid relationship took an unsettling turn when he tried to put a stop to it. That immortal femme fatale was played by Glenn Close, who was nominated for an Oscar for her role, and will now have her successor in Lizzy Caplan.
The Fatal Attraction series has a first trailer so that the viewer can wonder if Caplan, the actress of Masters of sex and Truth be told, will be up to the challenge. The starting point is the same, that of James Dearden’s novel: a married man goes through hell when his lover becomes obsessed with him and takes his spite to unhealthy levels.
But the temptation, as it already happened to Michael Douglas in Adrian Lyne’s film, is too strong, especially when you find yourself in an elevator with a woman who raises the idea of ??stopping the cubicle and giving free rein to one of the fantasies quintessential sex. The victim of seduction this time is Joshua Jackson, known for his work in Dawson’s Grows, Fringe and The Affair.
The writers of the remake are Alexandra Cunningham and Kevin J. Hynes, experts in shady relationships after writing the Dirty John series about real couples that ended in tragedy. They will be challenged to reimagine this “fundamental pillar of ’80s culture” and “a classic psychosexual thriller,” reflecting on “marriage and infidelity through the lens of modern attitudes toward strong women, mental disorders, of personality and coercive control”, reports the press release from Paramount, the platform that will broadcast the series in the United States.
And the release date? The next April 30. It remains to be seen if it will be available on SkyShowtime, the streaming service that has recently arrived in Spain and is owned by Paramount Global.
