Amy Winehouse was a British singer who fell in love with millions of people around the world thanks to her unique style, her powerful voice, her careful aesthetics and her songs that went straight to the heart. The artist died at the age of 27 due to her different problems with alcohol.

His future was so promising and the legacy he left is so great that some businessmen in the audiovisual industry decided to create a biopic about his life and celebrate his figure on the big screen. Back to Black, the name of one of her most iconic songs, will give the title to the film about her life.

The actress chosen to play the London performer who fused jazz and soul in the film is Marisa Gabrielle Abela, an artist from the United Kingdom who gained some popularity after participating in audiovisual projects such as Industry (BBC Two and HBO) or Cobra (Sky one).

The choice of the protagonist gave a lot of talk, since Winehouse’s most loyal fans defended on social media that there was not enough physical resemblance and that Abela does not have the charisma that characterized his idol.

After many months of work and effort, yesterday the first trailer for the film that will rescue Amy Winehouse’s legacy was released around the world. Although many have praised the production, photography and sound of the trailer, Abela has once again become the target of hundreds of fierce criticisms online.

Mitch, Amy’s father, declared a few months ago before the American media TMZ that he totally agrees with the making and purpose of the film and that he is happy with the choice of Abela as the protagonist, although he understands that he is not very physically similar to her daughter.

The film is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and produced by StudioCanal UK in collaboration with Focus Features and Monumental Pictures. As for the day of its release, we will still have to wait a few months, since it has been announced that the biopic will arrive in the United Kingdom on April 12, 2024.

At the moment, the exact date on which the audiovisual piece will premiere in Spain and in the different countries that make up Latin America is unknown. It has been announced when it will hit theaters in the United States: May 10 of the same year.
