In 2020, Netflix premiered a new reality show on its platform that was presented as the ‘Big Brother of the influencer era’. Based on the British program of the same name, the contest consists of trying to be the most popular in the competition to avoid expulsion.
Although it may remind us of the reality show that Mercedes Milá presented in our country for 15 years, on this occasion the participants are not face to face, but rather have to interact through a screen. Every day (or every other day), after talking to some classmates, playing games, choosing your profile photos, etc. , each player rates his opponents in order of preference, giving the best positions to those with whom he has the best relationship (or with whom he shares an alliance). It should be noted that, while some play as themselves, others pose as friends, models, family members, etc., to try to be more popular.
The most beloved in the ranking become influencers, which means that they are safe for another week and that they have to make the difficult decision about which partner leaves the game permanently. Although this is the premise of the reality show, the truth is that there are many twists and surprises that make the competition interesting and unexpected.
The first season of the program worked very well on the platform, which is why Netflix opted for new editions and versions from other countries such as France or Brazil.
Although it seemed like we had already seen everything on the small screen, the sixth edition of the American version of the program has decided to innovate and confuse the contestants using artificial intelligence.
At a given moment in the competition, when a new contestant was supposed to join the game, an AI entered that interacted with the rest of the participants based on data and information it found on the network. Far from realizing it, the participants found the supposed boy funny and he was not expelled in his first classification.
After a few days playing with the machine, the program revealed to the contestants that one of them was not human and that they had to vote to make a formal accusation and thus expel whoever they believed was the AI.
None of the participants made the right choice, which caught the attention of the program’s fans on social networks. Furthermore, when the Organization confessed which profile was controlled by an artificial intelligence, the players were speechless, since the answers it gave seemed really genuine and personal.
