The hell of Blas sang in Eurovision: "I thought about leaving it twice"

The Murcian singer Blas Cantó participated as the representative of Spain in Eurovision in 2021 with his song Voy a Quedarme, after the cancellation of the festival in 2020, where he was also going to represent our country with the song Universo.

Two years later, the winner of Tu Cara me Suena has spoken about the experience in Human Animals, the Ibai Vegan podcast. The interview with Cantó comes shortly after his former partner from Auryn, Carlos Marco, attended the radio show.

The former member of Auryn thinks that his time at the festival was positive because his bad position caused a new team to be created in the delegation and the Benidormfest was cooked: “At the authorship level, many things were fought for.”

Instead, he has bittersweet memories of this stage, since during the two years in which he participated, his father and grandmother died, to whom he dedicated his song Voy a quedarme: “If I think about Eurovision, I think a lot about my grandmother , in pain, but also in the illusion of a more beautiful future”.

“I was stopped for two years, because I was just doing it,” acknowledges the Murcian artist. In addition, he has left all his followers speechless by confessing that he almost abandoned the experience: “I went to compete, but my head was not in it. I was not prepared to be in a competition. In fact, I wrote my resignation twice. And one of them is very hard. I’m not going to read that to you, but I thought I’d leave it.”

When the interviewer asked him about his mental health, Cantó is sure that he should have resigned: “I’ll tell you clearly: if I made it mentally, if I’m still alive today, I can do everything I want in my life “.

Another of the issues that has most attracted the attention of the podcast’s followers has been when the artist has spoken about the economic issue: “In Eurovision everyone gets paid except the one who is going to sing. What happens is that, if you are smart and the song is yours, something comes to you”, he confesses.

Finally, he explained that when someone goes to Eurovision, they don’t do it for the money, but for the recognition and the opportunity: ”The whole team gets paid except you. It’s okay, you know it’s an opportunity you’ll have to take advantage of.”

Blas Cantó got a fatal 24th place in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021, a result that came to light shortly after the high expectations that the Spanish public channel had created.

Many eurofans were very harsh with the singer and with the Spanish Television team, since the staging with a giant moon “was not up to the task” and it seemed that they did not make enough effort to obtain good results in the contest. Somehow, the criticism was heard, since the following year the new version of the Benidorm Festival was born and Chanel won bronze in Turin.
