On August 20, one of the hardest moments in Albert Rivera’s life came by surprise. His father, Agustín Rivera, died unexpectedly at the age of 71 due to a coronary problem, specifically linked to the aorta, despite having no previous health problems. Tragic news that the former leader of Ciudadanos received while he was enjoying his vacation in the United Kingdom, which he immediately canceled to move to Malaga and meet his mother, María Jesús Díaz.
Agustín Rivera’s farewell took place in the Torre del Mar mortuary, where his friends and family went -also his until now daughter-in-law, Malú, who did not hesitate to support his in-laws in these difficult moments. After a few days, still broken with pain, the former politician wanted to pay tribute to his mother in a very special way. Thus, the lawyer has written a public letter that he has shared through his Instagram profile, where he makes it clear that his father has meant everything to him.
“Life is wonderful, you have to enjoy it every minute. That’s what my father believed and that’s how he always instilled it in me ”, the former politician begins by sharing, who cannot help but regret what happened. “But life sometimes hurts, a lot, a lot… And this Sunday changed me forever, when I received that call from my mother that you are never prepared to receive.”, He says.
Rivera assures that in those first moments he could only feel “anger, disbelief and impotence”, as a feeling that the life his father spoke of “was deeply unfair and cruel.” Barely two days after his cremation, at which time he himself admits that he collapsed in his coffin “with the feeling that by leaving they were tearing out part of my heart without anesthesia”; the lawyer admits that he begins to see everything differently. “Your legacy of values, moments and learning from these decades is beginning to make sense,” he writes.
The former leader of Ciudadanos confesses that he will miss the way his father loved him, who was still sparing in words, but was generous in gestures that showed his love on a day-to-day basis. Two very similar people, who formed a great team, as many of his collaborators were able to verify over the years. Rivera is thankful for having been able to enjoy that “best version” of Agustín, that of his father. “You taught me to grow in freedom and responsibility (which are two sides of the same coin), you always tried to get me right, but you also let me make mistakes so that I learned to get up,” he recalls.
Albert Rivera insists that for him, his father is “irreplaceable.” For this reason, he will always take him with him and will be present in the values ??that he instills in his daughters -Daniela (8), the result of his relationship with the psychologist Mariona Saperas; and Lucía (2), from her courtship with Malú. “You have left our side, I miss you, I die of pain thinking about it. But I promise you that from today I will fill that void with your essence and your legacy, ”he assures, before promising that he will take care of his mother.
To finish, the former politician makes one last promise to his father: to live his death celebrating life. “Have a good trip, dad, I love you,” he says goodbye.
A letter full of pain that has been filled with reactions and comments on the social network, with thousands of “likes” and messages of support from colleagues and friends, such as Laura Sánchez, Niña Pastori, Fernando Sanz, Marta Sánchez, chef Pepa Muñoz or his former father-in-law Pepe de Lucía; They did not want to miss the opportunity to send her love publicly.
Beatríz Tajuelo, Albert Rivera’s ex-girlfriend, reminds the former politician that his father “adored” him and that he went wherever he was to see him: “I remember that he knew how to enjoy life, he enjoyed the little moments… I remember him with his little cigar and your coffee… You have a wonderful family, Albert”, she dedicated to him.
