The streamer David Cánovas, known as The Grefg, has decided to put an end to his legal conflict with the elderly Andorran woman who was evicted by his company and who caused so much talk in the media, by selling the building in which the woman lives.

The influencer made the decision just hours after learning that the Justice of the Principality of Andorra dropped his lawsuit against the elderly woman, as confirmed by his lawyer, Jesús Betriu, to Andorran radio.

The decision to disassociate itself from the “investment and renovation” of the property comes after months immersed in a legal battle with the 80-year-old woman, whom he wanted to evict from the building. In the resolution, to which the newspaper El País has had access, the Superior Court of Justice of Andorra annulled the sentence handed down by the judge in favor of the streamer, last August.

The new resolution, which is firm, rejects the eviction request and agrees with the woman, who has been renting since 1989 and, since then, claims that she has been the victim of threatening techniques to evict her. For this reason, as Betriu explains, the content creator is “preparing the public deed” for the sale of the building.

It all started in 2020, when Cánovas bought a block of homes in the Principality through his company, Grefito. The content creator stopped renewing the contracts that the tenants had with the former owner, who ended up leaving the building. However, he could not terminate the old woman’s lease, which predated Andorra’s tenant regulations, and which had no “end date.”

The content creator decided to “disassociate himself from the property” when he learned of the conflict with this elderly woman, who refused to leave the building. According to her lawyer, the elderly woman said she had a verbal contract with the former owner. However, the streamer continued as administrator of the property, although he denounced the old woman.

In one of the trials, the owner of the property even said that the old woman was a “scoundrel” and that the verbal contract was broken, so it made no sense for her to continue living there.

“I consider myself a strong guy and I’m going to continue being that way all my life, but it’s already driving me absolutely crazy,” said the streamer when reacting to the Justice ruling, ensuring that all this controversy had shaken his professional career. “Do you know how many brands said ‘see you later’?” he commented.

The Grefg filed an eviction lawsuit for “abusive occupancy”, which it won in August 2023. The judge agreed with the content creator and ordered the eviction of the tenant, even though the ruling recognized that the woman had a contract verbal since 1989 that was renewed every year, but the judges decreed the eviction based on the new housing law of Andorra, which only allows annual rental contracts.

Pere Cristòfol, the old woman’s lawyer, assured that he would appeal the sentence and he did so. Finally, the court rejects the previous ruling and agrees with the woman, pointing out a legal defect in the streamer’s lawsuit, which forgets to indicate the legal cause for the termination of the rental contract.
