Ana Peleteiro is one of the most relevant athletes in our country and an inspiration for many women. The Galician gave birth to her first daughter a little over a year ago and, since then, she has learned to combine her life as a mother with her career as an elite athlete. The athlete opened up about all of this in an interview with Vogue, and she also addressed what her adoption process was like after her biological mother abandoned her at birth.

It is not easy for an athlete to compete again after giving birth, but Ana has not only done it, but has decided to dedicate more time to her mental health. “At the end of the day, since my mother abandoned me as soon as I was born, she left me in the hospital, I am very afraid that the people I love will disappear,” she expressed to the aforementioned media.

But it was not the only issue he addressed during the interview. Peleteiro explained the comments that she has had to live with because she is a black woman, an athlete and adopted. “When they attack me they tell me: ‘Black whore, go to your country’. This is something that makes me angry, because I was born in Galicia on December 2, 1995,” she explains to Vogue, in one of her most sincere interviews.

Although she has been very happy with her adoptive family, and feels infinitely grateful to them, Peleteiro also claimed the fact that a baby needs its surrogate mother. Ana explained that her mother “gave birth in her house at the age of 18” and, after being born, left her at the hospital. “What I know is that she was a very brave woman, who knew how to recognize that she was not prepared to raise me and that, therefore, she needed someone to raise me for her,” the athlete was honest.

After this, the Administration tried to find him a family. The first family rejected her because of her skin color, but the second decided to take care of her. Ana Peleteiro’s adoptive parents had been trying to have children for four years, but finally it was Ana who came into her life. “It’s a topic that I don’t mind talking about, because I feel proud,” she said, very happy to have been able to spend her childhood with the family that raised her and supported her.

As for sports, Ana Peleteiro is in a very good moment. The athlete faces the Short Track World Championships this weekend in Glasgow, the city where she was crowned European triple jump champion in 2019. The Galician arrives at the event more than prepared, after jumping 14.32 meters in Ourense two weeks ago, achieving the minimum for this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris and for the World Cup itself. We will have to wait to find out how this new appointment will go on her sports calendar.
