The Thai Police continue working on the investigation report into the murder of Colombian Edwin Arrieta, confessed by Daniel Sancho, and have already announced that they plan to deliver it to the Prosecutor’s Office during this month of September, in the absence of some blood and DNA.
Sancho, 29, was arrested on August 5 in Koh Phangan, southern Thailand, after confessing to the murder and dismemberment of Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta three days earlier. Since then, the police have tried to reconstruct his steps in the hours before the crime, in an investigation in which about 30 people have participated, including agents, investigators, forensic doctors and divers, according to police sources.
The confessed murderer of Edwin Arrieta might think that he had the perfect crime, but nothing could be further from it because he left too many “footprints” and clues for the Police, who have been able to know what steps the son of actor Rodolfo Sancho took after the murder of Colombian surgeon, as revealed in a new report by the Research Team.
Among other things, the culinary content creator was captured by several security cameras in several businesses where he entered to buy some items that he would allegedly later use in the dismemberment of Arrieta’s body. Images that, in addition, would be supported by the testimonies of several witnesses in the area, who saw his movements in the hours before the atrocious crime.
A night he spent awake, entering and leaving the villa where he was supposedly going to stay with Edwin Arrieta, but which turned into a macabre scene. Some cleaners saw him near the beach, carrying bags that it is believed he could have thrown into nearby solid waste containers. These witnesses were not questioned by the Police.
Just like the restaurant where he went to have breakfast the next morning when, perhaps due to carelessness, the confessed murderer of the Colombian health worker left behind a black cloth bag with two incriminating pieces of evidence: a bloody gauze pad and a knife. Apparently, they were never collected by the Thai Police.
Although the Police deliver the report in the next few days, the investigation could continue later, since the Prosecutor’s Office would have the remaining period of 84 days to request more evidence if it considers it necessary. There are still parts of the body to be found, some of them important – such as the thorax, the heart or the arms -; in addition to the knife or saw that Sancho would have used to dismember the body.
Sancho’s lawyers will be able to officially access the case report once the Prosecutor’s Office has delivered it to the judge and the trial begins. For the moment, Marcos GarcÃa Montes’ team continues to transfer documentation with Sancho’s previous representation team in Spain.
His family also continues to look for a lawyer in Thailand, without whom they will not be able to appear at trial, since regulations require that the lawyer representing Daniel Sancho be of Thai nationality.
“The family has hired a team to defend Daniel’s interests in Spain, Colombia and here. We are preparing evidence, very interesting evidence that we cannot reveal. We are working hard. We have a team of experts, criminological psychologists, specialists… and This is what we are working on,” GarcÃa Montes explained last week, upon his arrival in Thailand with the young man’s father, actor Rodolfo Sancho.
