This past morning, Los Angeles took out its red carpet again to celebrate the 75th edition of the Emmy Awards, the highest awards that the American Television Academy gives to the best television series. Succession and The Bear were the winners and the statuettes were distributed for best drama and comedy series respectively.
However, leaving the awards aside, the emphasis should be placed on something that happened on stage and that moved both those present and the spectators of the gala. This is the reappearance of actress Christina Applegate, diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021, and which led her colleagues to get up from their seats and applaud her.
Not even the delay in the start of the 2024 Emmys due to the writers’ strike dampened a gala full of much emotion, which began with a musical number starring the presenter, Anthony Anderson.
Although emotional, that moment will always remain in the memory when Christina Applegate, nominated for best lead actress in a comedy for Dead to Me, arrived on stage arm in arm with the presenter and with the help of a cane.
His public reappearance resulted in an overwhelming applause from his professional colleagues present at the venue. Everyone stood up to welcome the interpreter, who has suffered from multiple sclerosis since 2021.
In the images we can see how Applegate reached the microphone with difficulty and, very excited, tried to hide her face in Anderson’s lap. When she looked back at the stalls, applauding her partner wildly, she couldn’t help but get emotional and burst into tears.
The actress, who became famous for series such as Married with Children or Dead to Me, spoke some nice words to thank so many expressions of affection. “You’re embarrassing me with the disability by standing there, but okay,” she joked. “You don’t have to applaud every time she can do something,” she assured.
The actress continued her most emotional speech with “I’m going to cry more than I’ve ever cried.” Although she was humorous and made a very humorous comment about Anderson, her companion and presenter of the gala: “I don’t really need him, he’s just very cute.”
Since she was diagnosed with the disease in 2021, Christina Applegate made it public to, on the one hand, raise awareness among the general public, and, on the other, to break stigmas in the industry. However, the actress also made clear in several interviews the possibility of leaving her career due to the impact that multiple sclerosis had had on her life.
