One more year, Cristina Pedroche has been the protagonist of the Chimes on Antena 3. The presenter once again left reactions of all kinds on social networks thanks to the double dress she wore in the last seconds of 2023. A living creation, by the Navarrese Paula Ulargui and in collaboration with Greenpeace, which sought to raise awareness in society about the drought. However, as usually happens every year, what has been found has been criticism and memes.
Pedroche’s wardrobe choice for New Year’s Eve continues to be one of the elements that most unites and divides social media users throughout the year. Since the last of the twelve bells rang, platforms such as X (Twitter) or TikTok have been filled with responses and artistic creations that capture the general feeling about the garment, whether positive or negative. A multitude of well-known figures in Spanish stardom also entered the rag.
One of the first to react was Jordi Cruz, the presenter of the legendary Art Attack, now a judge of the Tik Tak Factory crafts contest on SX3. In a publication that recalled one of his many presentations of materials, the Barcelona native recalled the program that gave him public recognition in the late 90s. “To make your Pedroche dress you need… a roll of plastic paper, a paintbrush and turquoise paint…”, he wrote.
Many of the users who responded to the message reproached Cruz for the absence of a material: the famous Art Attack concoction, the mixture of water and white glue in equal parts with which most crafts were created. Other users chose to remember popular scenes from series like The Simpsons. One of the images shared includes the famous scene of Homer hiding in the bushes, in this case in Pedroche’s cape.
Another scene shows the patriarch of the Springfield family fallen under the shower curtain. “New news: Cristina Pedroche sleeps in an air tent that according to her gives her sexual powers!” read one of the responses. Milhouse’s mother’s jacuzzi suit has also made an appearance, as well as children dressed as clouds, adults as bushes, stepped on chewing gum, characters from the video game Fortnite, torn gloves and even Iceberg lettuce.
The outfit chosen by Pedroche is made up of three pieces: cape, dress and shoes. The cape, created from recycled wool, incorporates hydroponic cultivation that allows plants to take root in the fabric, displaying a blanket of red amaranth and nasturtiums. In parallel, the dress is made with an organic and biodegradable fabric made of gelatin, agar, glycerin and water. Molded with heat, it transforms into a dress of green tones with transparencies, transmitting the need to protect water, our most valuable resource.
