This Monday the 18th, the journey of TardeAR, Telecinco’s new afternoon program with Ana Rosa Quintana at the helm, officially began. The presenter takes over the slot after the controversial ending of Sálvame, which was announced last May along with the name of the person who would be Jorge Javier Vázquez’s replacement starting this September.
The Mediaset network has promoted the premiere in recent weeks, ensuring that it would have a “revolutionary” format and that it would have nothing to do with Ana Rosa’s program, the morning show that Quintana has presented for the last 18 years. It was at 5 in the afternoon when that first installment of TardeAR started.
In its premiere, in addition to paying tribute to television and some of its most legendary presenters, Quintana began by interviewing one of the world champions of women’s soccer, the player of the Spanish National Team Ivana Andrés, and had collaborators of the stature by Xavier Sardá, Alaska or Mario Vaquerizo, with which to address the current affairs of the day.
The singer and leader of the group Nancys Rubias has taken advantage of one of his interventions to give his opinion on one of the most controversial issues in recent times: the so-called ‘Rubiales case’, carried out by the former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation after his kiss I did not consent to Jenni Hermoso. Vaquerizo’s reaction has also been most controversial and has been noted on the networks.
“I don’t know what to do with Rubiales, because it is a quite difficult situation,” he began by intervening. “I’m not going to take a position, but I think I would appreciate it from the girls who have suffered all that to be clearer and braver and say ‘this was like that’, because if we don’t base ourselves on assumptions,” were the controversial words from the artist who, however, received the support of sports presenter Manu Carreño.
After that, social networks have been on fire with all kinds of criticism of his words, marked even more if possible by the premiere of TardeAR itself. “Mario Vaquerizo explaining to victims of abuse how to be good victims of abuse. TardeAR starts off great, honestly”; “Mario Vaquerizo whitewashing Rubiales; not that way, Mario” or “Every time Mario Vaquerizo opens his mouth it makes me want to turn off the television” were some of the comments made during his speech.
