Juanjo Puigcorbé has seen two of his latest professional projects succeed. The actor, who is part of the productions Entre tierras and Machos Alfa 2, returned to the world of cinema after taking a professional break to get into politics. A decision that, although he does not regret it, has left a bad taste in his mouth and cost him a long time without being able to work. He went almost seven years without receiving a project, as he reveals in a recent interview with Semana magazine.

“For more than seven years the phone didn’t ring, I didn’t have any job offers,” the actor, 68, revealed to the aforementioned media. During the 80s and 90s, he was one of the most recognized actors in our country. However, not everything would always be like this. Now, Juanjo combines television, cinema and theater. In the interview granted, Juanjo invites the magazine to visit the central and “fantastic” apartment in which he currently lives, during his stay in Madrid.

“I have lived in Madrid for a long time. I have lived 30 years in Barcelona and about 20 in Madrid, more or less. Both my wife and I have lived a little bit everywhere. It is very likely that we will return to Madrid again,” he explained, about their future plans. She also opened up about her current professional projects and explained to Semana what his return to the theater has been like.

The actor is part of the cast of the play Black Rock, which will be his return to the stage after eleven years. “It takes many years to stop seeing a person in a profession, but it doesn’t matter. I haven’t forgotten anything. I’m back in the same place. At first you think: ‘Damn, it’s going to take me a while to get back to it.’ You feel clumsier the first few days, but you quickly find yourself,” he explained on this issue. Regarding the project, he assures that “it was the opportunity to say yes.”

On the other hand, Juanjo also opened up about the time he spent without receiving any job offers. “From the four years I was in politics, the next three, I thought I would reengage with my career, but it was not possible,” he began by saying, reflecting on how his role as a politician took its toll on him. “I wanted to explain that if I have not been seen working it has not been because I did not want to, but because I did not have a job. They did not call me,” he began by saying.

“This shocked me a lot, it shocked us, come on, because exactly the same thing happened to my wife, Lola. Let everyone draw their own conclusions, but it doesn’t seem normal to me at all,” he said. The actor even had to request early retirement due to his situation. “In some way I have denounced that this was not accidental, it was voluntarily to do the maximum possible damage and that is why I say it in some way. I have not been the only case. There are many more,” he claimed.

Although the actor assures that he does not regret having put aside his professional career and having gotten into politics, he explains that “it is a world that I did not know and I have known it from the inside and I have not liked it at all.” Regarding both spheres, he assures that “there are many differences.” “That’s why I said that I have returned again to the love of being with the people of my profession. In a world where everyone is kicked, stabbed, elbowed and insulted…”, he continued saying.

Currently, he has no shortage of professional projects. He is now immersed in the performance of Roca negra, at the Teatro Pavón, in Madrid. On the other hand, there is Machos Alfa 2, Entre tierras on Antena3 and a film in Argentina. Regarding that, he claimed that “someone was interfering with reality.” “But reality has its continuity and someone was putting obstacles in the way and this has disappeared,” he expressed. Finally, he assured that he is not spiteful but “justice.” “There are people who deserve tremendous punishment,” he concluded before Semana.
