Actor Jonathan Majors will not go to jail after being found guilty of mistreatment of his ex-wife, Grace Jabbari, in a case that has generated widespread media interest. After several months of court proceedings, Manhattan Court Judge Michael Gaffey ruled that Majors must complete one year of domestic violence counseling.
This sentence puts an end to a process that has kept public opinion in suspense since the events that occurred in March 2023 came to light.
News of the sentence was announced this Monday, following motions filed by Majors’ legal team. The actor went to court in the company of his current partner, Meagan Good, where he hugged his family and sat next to his lawyers to hear the verdict. The hearing also featured shocking testimony from Jabbari, who harshly stated that he “is not sorry nor does he accept any responsibility. He will do this again. He will hurt any woman again.”
The incident that led to Majors’ conviction occurred in March 2023, when he was arrested for assaulting Jabbari in the back seat of his car. Despite the accusations, the actor denied his guilt and his defense argued that the actress was the aggressor.
However, justice found him guilty of assault and harassment charges in early January, which led to the immediate termination of his contract with Marvel, where he played the universe’s new big villain.
The sentence of one year of counseling for domestic violence has generated diverse reactions in public opinion. While some express relief at seeing justice for the victim, others question whether the sentence imposed is sufficient given the seriousness of the events.
In addition, uncertainty arises about Majors’ professional future and his participation in film projects, especially in relation to his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
