As the Eurovision 2024 final approaches, tension continues to rise. Just hours before the show begins, after the expulsion of the Netherlands and the snub of Ireland, Irene Montero has asked that Nebulossa not participate in the Eurovision final as a way of expressing rejection of the presence of Israel in the festival .
Likewise, he has requested the dismissal of María Izaguirre, who holds the position of head of communications in the Spanish Eurovision delegation.
“With the pain that we know it can cause to Eurofans, and from the complete admiration for Nebulosa, which has already shown us that with music we can defend freedom and diversity, we believe that the best way for Spain to win this Festival is not participating,” said the former Minister of Equality.
In reference to Ana María Bordás, who plays the role of director of communication and participation at RTVE, María Eizaguirre has expressed that neither she nor Irene Montero have condemned Israel, even after Spanish journalists have been harassed by the Israeli press to request a ceasefire.
On the other hand, Montero has once again called on the Government to “immediately cease diplomatic relations” with Israel. “We don’t understand what else needs to happen for the president to take concrete steps to stop the genocide and to isolate the genocidal Netanyahu and Israel,” he declared.
Montero has criticized that the leader of the Executive is considering the recognition of the Palestinian State while continuing to refer to Israel as “a country friendly to Spain” and does not address “the total arms embargo.”
