Fallera hairstyles are a fundamental part of the traditional Valencian costume. Over the years they have evolved to adapt to fashion trends, but without losing the traditional aesthetic that is part of the cultural DNA of this native festival. The first two weeks of March, Valencia vibrates with the famous mascletà and some women dress in costumes from the 18th and 19th centuries to worship this festival.

But this year the surprise has come with the international leap of the fallera aesthetic. Specifically, hair tied up with braids and buns has appeared in the American edition of Vogue, the magazine directed by Anna Wintour that sets the trends that are worn around the world.

A group of falleras have been portrayed for the series ‘Global Women 2024’, a list that reviews the different characteristic hairstyles around the world. In this section, the characteristic hairstyle of the falleras is one of those chosen in the report photographed by Andrea Savall.

Among all types of hairstyles, braided hairstyles are currently gaining popularity. The braids add that romantic and bohemian touch to the outfit and are usually tied up in a bun and crowned by a comb or flowers on the top of the head.

The report stars the falleras of Ripalda-Beneficència and its senior fallera, Berta Peiró. Other older women also pose next to her, some of them stating that “their hairpieces are already sewn and prepared” and “the only thing I have to do to get ready is put them on.”
