Willy Bárcenas, the vocalist of the Taburete group and son of Luis Bárcenas and Rosalía Iglesias, has starred in a large number of headlines this week as a result of a controversial interview with El Mundo. In it, the son of the former treasurer of the PP, assures that he does not believe in fluid gender and assures that, for him, there are only men and women. These statements have been collected by various media, one of them, the Telecinco program Socialité, hosted by Nuria Marin.

Controversial from beginning to end, in the interview, Willy assures that despite the many fans that the band has and some excesses from the past, now he only maintains relationships with his wife, the poet Loreto Sesma, who fills his day to day with joy. “In the end, flirting or being with a girl one night does not contribute much either. What it really contributes is finding someone, as has been my case, that you want to be with you for the rest of your life. The rest is fleeting fun” , expressed in said interview.

In the conversation with the aforementioned medium, Bárcenas also assures that, in his band, they do not feel represented by the “Cayetanos” label that persecutes them. In addition, he ensures that both he and his colleagues do not get angry if other artists or groups do not want to collaborate with them. “They have every right,” the artist stated in said interview. However, his most controversial statements would come when he recalled some words that he dedicated to his audience in one of his last concerts.

“Boys, girls, never children,” the 33-year-old expressed in one of his concerts. Thus, the leader of Taburete showed his audience his doubts about sexual and gender diversity. “I respect that a person who was born with one sex identifies with another. What happens is that I think that with this we are going crazy. (…) Your perception of how you feel does not have to be seen by the rest, In other words, the rest of us see what we see,” he explains in that interview. Some statements that have not gone unnoticed and have caused quite a stir.

The son of Luis Bárcenas is also very skeptical in the interview with everything related to fluid gender. “That’s bullshit. Those things already seem like a joke to me. Today I wake up as a woman and tomorrow I go to bed as a man. There are cases in which it is real that sex does not agree with the gender and I defend it and, of course, I am in favor of all that. But I also think there are many people who, in order to attract attention and feel important, invent things that I don’t think exist,” he says.

The truth is that Willy Bárcenas already knows what it is to be at the center of the controversy. In the past, he said that Podemos was a party that had been “exercising political violence” for years or that Spanish cinema is always asking for subsidies. In addition, in the middle of the pandemic, during his concert at the Starlite in Marbella, he was highly criticized for not respecting security measures, such as the use of masks or social distancing. Now, this list is joined by some controversial statements about fluid gender.
