The Rubiales case has changed the rules of the game. After occupying the headlines of numerous media around the world, Luis Rubiales’ kiss to Jenni Hermoso has put the treatment received by soccer players in the spotlight, who raise their voices to denounce this injustice.

This is the case of the Spanish Women’s Soccer Team, which has confessed to the abuse suffered until 2015 at the hands of Ignacio Quereda. With the aim of making society aware of this problem, Movistar Plus will premiere the documentary Romper el silencio on October 28, focusing on this unfavorable situation in the world of sport.

The new Movistar Plus report recovers the rebellions of the players against the previous coach, whose behavior was humiliating for the soccer players.

Quereda became the national women’s soccer coach in 1988; and neither the way of treating the players, nor the results obtained justified her almost thirty years in office, since Spain spent 16 years without going to any international competition.

Movistar Plus wanted to give the victims of this unfair dynamic a voice by rescuing the report Breaking the Silence, a piece that is part of Report . It contains the testimonies of the protagonists before the treatment of Quereda, who was replaced in 2015 by Jorge Vilda.

One of the then players, Mar Prieto, defines him as “a despot”, while Roser Serra, for her part, admits not having been aware of the psychological abuse until much later. Phrases like “Let’s see if you take care of yourself, you’re fat…” or “What you need is a macho” marked the team members.

In addition to the testimonies, the archive images stand out, where Quereda resorts to shouting, scorning, blows to the head, pulling the ear or pinching the cheeks towards his players, who ended up publicly denouncing him.
