French striker Karim Benzema has filed a complaint against the French Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, who claimed that he had “obvious” links with the Islamist group Muslim Brotherhood, the large Islamist organization founded in 1928 and one of whose branches is the Hamas movement. .

As reported on Tuesday by RTL radio, the lawyers of the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner filed the lawsuit after Darmanin assured that Benzema’s link with the Muslim Brotherhood was “evident.”

The athlete claims that it is slander and has not hesitated to go to court. “A person’s name is dragged only for communicative reasons. With family consequences for those close to them that are considerable,” the lawyer defended in the interview.

Darmanin made these statements after Benzema considered the bombings against the Palestinian territory unjust.

A few days after the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, in a comment on unjust bombings that do not spare women or children.

In response to the minister’s criticism, the lawyer of the former Real Madrid player assured that these types of statements by the minister “sow division” in the country: “When listening to them, some people exclude Karim Benzema and others feel excluded when listening to them.”

“It is the opposite of what is expected of a person who considers himself a statesman,” added Benzema’s lawyer, who now hopes that justice will rule in his favor.
