Antonio Barrul has become one of the great protagonists of today after the incident that occurred in a movie theater in León. The 25-year-old professional boxer was with his wife and his children in a movie theater to watch the new Garfield movie when suddenly a man began to scold a woman and a girl in the middle of the room. When the alleged aggressor switched from verbal attacks to physical ones, Barrul decided to intervene, giving the instigator a barrage of blows.
The events, which were recorded by several people in the cinema, covered every corner of the internet in a matter of hours. After everything that happened and the commotion generated, the Leonese boxer has been speaking in different media outlets in recent hours to tell his version of the events.
This Tuesday, May 7, Antonio Barrul went live on the Cuatro program En boca de todos, where he once again explained everything that happened this afternoon at the movies in León. ”The majority of messages I have received have been supportive and that makes me feel somewhat better,” he began by saying.
Despite having avoided a sexist attack, the Leonese boxer confessed to being sorry for everything that took place in the movie theater, since many minors witnessed the fight. ”I feel sorry for having put them through that bad experience, but I acted as it came from my heart and when something comes from your heart it is difficult to regret it,” he declared. ”But the children were seeing abuse and that is really wrong,” the presenter told him.
”What I did has no justification, but I want to clarify that I did it so that gender violence does not continue, somehow it must be stopped. I tried to stop him, calling security and asking him to leave, but he didn’t want to. He became provocative and threatened me. Then I felt my physical integrity was threatened and I decided to act,’ he clarified.
Regarding whether he would act in the same way again, Antonio Barrul confessed that he would defend a woman again if necessary in the same way. ”That is an injustice,” he confessed. Both the Castilla y León Boxing Federation and the national one have positioned themselves on the side of the six-time national champion and do not believe that he will have disciplinary measures. For his part, the aggressor was arrested instantly and the attacked woman filed a complaint against him. He is now awaiting trial. ”I have a daughter and I would love for there to be an Antonio Barrul near him if they ever try to touch his hair, I tell you from my heart,” said Nacho Abad.
