On May 15, Ana Rosa Quintana starred in a controversial controversy during the delivery of the medals of honor at San Isidro, in Madrid. The presenter was awarded one of those decorations in recognition of her journalistic career, although the celebratory atmosphere was marred by the speech that Quintana herself made when collecting the medal.

“I grew up in Usera, in a working-class and hard-working neighborhood, before it was Chinatown,” were the words of Ana Rosa to refer to her roots in the city of Madrid. After that, the social networks burned and did not hesitate to point out the racism that, in her opinion, emerged from the phrase pronounced by the communicator. Now, two weeks later, Ana Rosa Quintana has defended herself against these serious accusations.

The presenter has been invited this Monday to Herrera on COPE, the radio program that Carlos Herrera presents every morning. There, in addition to carrying out a detailed reading of the electoral results of last May 28, Quintana wanted to assess the controversy that splashed her two weeks ago.

“I was racist because I said Chinatown,” he began by saying to put the announcer in a situation of what he was going to report. “Listen, excuse me, what is the name of the neighborhood in New York, London or Paris?” He asked himself to try to defend himself from the adjective he had used that day.

Quintana has made clear his knowledge of the site of contention, which, according to his account, is replete with elements of Chinese culture. “Usera, which is the neighborhood where I grew up, has been granted 200,000 euros of European funds to put the doors with the lanterns, they already have the panda statue, and there is the Virgin of China,” he assured.

After that, she has specifically addressed those who called her racist for her words and accuses them of not knowing the reality. “But this is not Chinatown, because they are some rednecks who have not even really gone to the neighborhoods, who in the end have all voted in the north,” concluded Ana Rosa, saying goodbye to the program where she has carried out her intervention.
