The job search has become one of the most difficult issues to manage in today’s society. It is increasingly difficult to find a suitable job, either because of the competitiveness and the bulk of the labor market, or because the conditions put many candidates back. A situation that, despite having regulations to make it happen, can be complicated for people who suffer from a disability.
This is the case of Lucía Martínez, a nursing technician who since June 26, 2020 has used a wheelchair in her daily life. Until then she was working normally at the La Princesa University Hospital in Madrid, but a spontaneous epidural hemorrhage compressed her spinal cord. “The doctors can’t tell me why it was, but I can associate it with the overexertion I put in. They say I’m a rare case, it hasn’t happened to anyone in a few years.
Her case has gained notoriety on the country’s social media because, since she suffered the hemorrhage, she has been rejected from three different employment opportunities. All of them, as she pointed out in videos shared through platforms such as Instagram or TikTok, without having read her resume. A case that has occurred until yesterday, Wednesday, in many centers, including a public hospital in the Community of Madrid.
TardeAR, Telecinco’s evening show presented by Ana Rosa Quintana, wanted to look at their situation with a report and a live interview. Martínez told the presenter and her collaborators that she was still looking for a position in the world of nursing, as it is the vocation and facet of it that she has studied. She herself pointed out that she could manage consultations or extractions, for example, despite the refusals.
However, as Ana Rosa herself told him, “we must not lose faith.” During their intervention on the Mediaset set, the team was interrupted by a live call. It was from Ignacio Mañas, director of the Casa Mayor residence in Griñón, a town south of the Community of Madrid that gives its name to the well-known marquisate. As Mañas explained live, his center is in concept “a hotel with services for seniors.”
The surprise came from his search for employees, pointing out that he was finding profiles similar to Lucía’s. This fact has led to applause from everyone present in the studio, while Ana Rosa put both interested parties in contact for a future interview. The collaborators also wanted to thank the person in charge for the work, including Manuel Díaz ‘El Cordobés’ who has even asked for a position.
