A tragic accident shook the municipality of Macael, in Almería, when an eight-year-old boy died after being hit by a motorcycle. The accident occurred on Thursday, May 16 at 8:10 p.m. on Avenida Paco Cosentino, a road with numerous intersections and pedestrian crossings.
The little boy, Eusebio Santos Guijarro, was taken unconscious to the La Inmaculada Hospital in Huércal-Overa, where he died a few hours later. Eyewitnesses claim that the driver of the vehicle fled instead of helping the minor.
The Macael Local Police managed to arrest the alleged perpetrator, a man of foreign origin, four hours after the incident. He was found early in the morning and currently remains in police custody, waiting to be presented before the judge.
Sonia, a neighbor and witness to the accident, shared her story on the program ‘Y Ahora Sonsoles’ on Antena 3. “I was leaving work when I saw a motorcycle making a lot of noise, doing wheelies. It happened very quickly, I heard the brakes and when I turned I saw the child beyond the pedestrian crossing, she had dragged him,” she narrated in shock. “The child was with his eyes open, unconscious.”
According to Sonia, the boy was crossing the street with his sister while his father watched them from the opposite sidewalk. “The sister did nothing but scream: ‘This is a dream, this is a dream’, ‘breathe, breathe’. We couldn’t do much, just wait for the ambulance to arrive. It was a very bad experience that I would not wish on anyone,” she lamented.
Additionally, Sonia explained that the motorcycle driver had been driving recklessly all afternoon. “He had been fooling around on the motorcycle all afternoon. The boy was riding a motorcycle that was not his, without insurance, he had no papers or license and, I don’t know if it’s true, but it is said that they had given him a few days off in a penitentiary center,” she stated.
The mayor of Macael, Raúl Martínez Requejo, has decreed a day of official mourning in memory of little Eusebio. The community is shocked and demands justice for the boy’s family. Meanwhile, the alleged perpetrator of the accident faces serious charges and will be brought to justice in the coming days.
