Exceeding the speed limits, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, not carrying the ITV of the car… When we get behind the wheel we have to drive in compliance with current regulations. Failure to comply with the driving rules entails light, serious or very serious traffic penalties. Their nature will depend on the type of offense and the circumstance in question. The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has recapitulated the types of infractions that exist as well as the most frequent on Spanish roads.
The DGT classifies the offenses that any driver can commit as minor, serious or very serious. Classifying the sanction in one group or another depends on several factors such as, for example, the dangerousness of the act in question.
The DGT has also published the most common sanctions. The most repeated are those that refer to driving above the speed limits, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, not wearing a seat belt or driving using a mobile phone. In addition, it warns that the responsibility for the infraction will always fall on the author of the infraction, except if the infraction is due to the non-use of child restraint systems or if the driver is a minor.
