The ID.Buzz, a new member of the Volkswagen ID family, has become one of the most anticipated launches of recent times. This MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) -or simply minivan- with 100% electric propulsion is a versatile and avant-garde car suitable for families, active people and companies that want to enjoy a remarkable interior space.
Moveo has had the opportunity to test the passenger minivan version, a model with five spacious and comfortable seats that offers a significant value of exclusivity and daring in terms of design, created to recall the mythical Bulli of 1950. Little more can be added in this apart, it is a vehicle that provokes great admiration in its wake, due to its modern proportions and its seductive “vintage” touch.
The ID.Buzz is not just image, as it offers a high degree of functionality thanks to its Open Space interior concept. It is accessed through two power sliding rear doors, an equipment included in the Open package
Inside, there is ample room for five occupants and their travel luggage. The front seats are spacious and have very comfortable seats, located in a high position that guarantees excellent visibility. The seats are comfortable and have adjustment options for distance, height, inclination and lumbar support. A massage function is also available, as well as height-adjustable armrests.
The interior design maintains high levels of originality, presided over by a dashboard that combines design and functionality. The passenger compartment has remarkable levels of habitability and the distribution of space can be managed thanks to the 15 cm longitudinal movement of the rear bench, a single seat designed for three occupants.
One of the strengths of the interior of the ID.Buzz is the availability of spaces and storage compartments. The package of practical life on board solutions also includes folding tables and USB sockets in the doors. For defenders of sustainability, comment that this model has been endowed inside with synthetic and recycled materials of non-animal origin.
The load capacity is outstanding. The trunk has a useful volume of 1,121 liters, a space that can be expanded to 2,205 liters by folding down the second row of seats, adjustable to adapt to each loading need. In addition, the Easy-Open function of the aforementioned Open package
The new VW model has many digital functions and, thanks to Car2X, it can communicate with other vehicles and provide information on traffic conditions and other incidents. In addition, digital systems are updated automatically through “Over-the-air”, through We Connect.
There are two screens in charge of reflecting the instrumentation. Behind the steering wheel is a 5.3-inch wheel and a larger 10-inch wheel is located in the central part of the console, for the multimedia system. The driver can be aware at all times of the necessary information related to driving, such as battery charge, remaining autonomy, navigation instructions or the operation of driving assistance systems.
The propulsion for the new ID.Buzz is a 204 hp (150 kW) electric motor that provides 310 Nm of torque to the rear wheels. The battery has a net capacity of 77 kWh and is integrated into the vehicle floor. This location allows for a lower center of gravity and minimizes the rolling movements of its high body.
The German brand announces a WLTP-approved autonomy of 417 km. As usual in any electric, the actual figure is significantly reduced when traveling at high speeds. In the event of making long journeys, the correct thing to do is to consider maximum journeys of 300 km in order to avoid episodes of anxiety when recharging the battery. However, it is necessary to emphasize that the ID.Buzz allows you to approach 350 km of autonomy when it comes to driving mostly at low speeds.
The behavior of the ID.Buzz is a real delight. Far from reflecting in this section the bulky shapes of the vehicle, it behaves with surprising agility on any type of track. The cornering capacity is high and the suspension does its job satisfactorily, even on uneven surfaces. The acoustic insulation is correct, the steering offers optimal precision and the brakes do their job without problems.
Like the rest of Volkswagen’s ID range, the ID.Buzz has two retention levels, allowing some energy regeneration, if favorable conditions occur. We also liked the function of automatically adjusting this retention, a position that considerably reduces the need to touch the brake pedal.
In the city, despite its considerable external dimensions, Volkswagen’s electric minivan has been endowed with an agility unbecoming of its size. Its excellent turning radius of 11.1 meters allows you to navigate and maneuver with solvency.
When recharging, the ID.Buzz allows maximum recharging power at AC points of 11 kW. When there is access to direct current fast charging stations, the power increases up to 170 kW and in just half an hour it is possible to recover from 5 to 80% of battery capacity.
