The Valors magazine, published by the Asociación Cultural Valors, based in Mataró, is celebrating two decades of existence this fall as an outstanding publication in the field of ethics and philosophy. To commemorate this anniversary, the promoters of the magazine have promoted various initiatives, including the publication of a special issue dedicated to the Declaration of Human Rights, and an event to celebrate the twentieth anniversary that will take place at the Mataró TecnoCampus.
This event is the result of the agreement that TecnoCampus has reached with the Valors association, with the aim of strengthening ties with entities in the territory like this one. As a result of the collaboration agreement with this entity, TecnoCampus collaborates in this event and becomes a sponsor of this cultural project that, from the city of Mataró, promotes reflection and debate on the great debates that our society has raised.
This event will take place on Tuesday, September 26, at 7 pm, in the auditorium of the TecnoCampus Mataró, with the participation of Fernando Vallespín, professor of Political Science and Administration at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) and former president of the Sociological Research Center (CIS). This event seeks not only to commemorate two decades of ethical and philosophical reflection, but also to inspire new thoughts and questions in society.
Joan Salicrú, co-director of Valors magazine, has highlighted the importance of holding this event at the TecnoCampus in Mataró, a “city’s future space”.
For the director of Valors, holding the event at the TecnoCampus is a way to bring thinking from Mataró to the rest of the world: “We think about the world, we ask the big questions of life, of society, how we can live better. “We try to generate new thinking, and we do it from the periphery to Catalonia and the whole world.”
Salicrú explains that, as a publication specialized in ethics, philosophy and thought, what “we want is to generate more questions than answers”, and that is the idea with which they have organized the event to be held at the TecnoCampus.
The agreement between TecnoCampus and Valors, initialed by the mayor and president of the TecnoCampus Mataró-Maresme Foundation, David Bote, and Joan Salicrú contemplates other forms of collaboration, such as the periodic dissemination of the activities of the technology park through the magazine.
In exchange, Valors will give away six annual subscriptions of the magazine each year to the finalists of the contest to choose the design of the portfolio for the academic year that is organized each year.
Since its first edition in December 2003, Valors has maintained its commitment to analyzing current events from the perspective of values ??and ethics, with the participation of renowned intellectuals in the country and consolidating itself as the reference magazine in these fields.
To celebrate its twentieth anniversary, a special issue dedicated to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on its 75th anniversary has been published, an initiative promoted by the United Nations after the Second World War.
In this issue, the magazine seeks to answer fifteen fundamental questions on this topic, such as whether human rights have lost relevance, whether they are truly universal and equitable for all, and whether it is necessary to add new rights to this declaration.
This special magazine features the participation of prominent international personalities, such as the former director general of UNESCO, Federico Mayor-Zaragoza; the French sociologist Sami Naïr; University of Notre Dame professor and international mediator, John Paul Lederach; the Nobel Peace Prize winner, Nadia Murad; and the former commissioner for the 2030 Agenda of the Spanish Government, Cristina Gallach, among others. The magazine has also been presented during the Setmana del Llibre in Català.
