It is common for many people to focus on cleaning the exterior of their cars, neglecting the interior, despite being one of the places we frequent the most. According to a study carried out jointly by Ipsos and The Boston Consulting Group cited by Europa Press, the car is an unavoidable means of transport for practically all daily journeys: 60% use this means to get to the place of work or study and 51% do it to take their children to their daily activities.

However, cleaning the interior of the vehicle is equally important to maintain a comfortable and safe environment, as well as to ensure a pleasant driving experience. A thorough cleaning of the passenger compartment not only improves the aesthetic appearance, but also contributes to creating a more hygienic and welcoming space, reducing the risk of allergies and respiratory problems caused by the accumulation of dust and dirt.

As with exterior cleaning, we can take care of cleaning the interior of the vehicle ourselves without having to resort to a professional. To carry out an exhaustive cleaning, time is needed, but we do not necessarily have to start and finish the task in a single session, but we can dose the work taking advantage of free time.

Next, we are going to review the different phases that we must cover to leave the cabin resplendent as if it were a new car just out of the dealership.

To begin with, we must get rid of any garbage, packaging and other elements that we do not need. In this way we will be able to clear the cabin and work on cleaning with greater comfort. We will also remove the rest of the objects that prevent us from carrying out a thorough cleaning (umbrella, keys, coins, etc.) even if we are not going to get rid of them.

Use a vacuum to deep clean the seats, floor mats, and upholstery areas of the car. Shake the mats beforehand and pay special attention to the gaps under the seats and in the trunk where dirt tends to accumulate. To clean the mats and pedals, use a brush impregnated with a cleaning product. Instead, to clean the upholstery you will need a microfiber towel and neutral soap.

Wipe a water-dampened microfiber cloth over the dash, doors, center console, and other interior surfaces of the car. Avoid using strong chemicals that can damage the materials. Once you have removed the dust, carefully apply directly a dashboard cleaner in small doses or by moistening a cloth.

First, remove the accumulated dust from the crystals -both on the outside and on the inside- with a microfiber cloth or towel. Next, apply window cleaning fluid to the windshield and the rest of the windows and rub with a clean cloth, making sure to remove smudges, fingerprints and residues that may hinder visibility.

Spend time cleaning the controls, buttons, and air conditioning vents. It is recommended that you use a dashboard cleaning spray accompanied by a microfiber cloth. Use a soft brush or Q-tip (like those used for personal hygiene) to make sure you get into every nook and cranny.

An air freshener will help to achieve a fresh environment inside the car, providing a pleasant fragrance. Avoid scents that contain strong chemical compounds that can affect air quality. If you want your car to smell like a new car, you can find air fresheners with this fragrance on the market.
