The next F1 Spanish Grand Prix, which will take place from June 21 to 23, will have an exceptional preview in Barcelona.
Mayor Jaume Collboni’s team is preparing an impressive ‘road show’ that will transform Passeig de Gracia, one of the most emblematic places in the city, into a vibrant single-seater exhibition stage before the race at the Circuit.
Known as the F1 Live Barcelona Road Show, this event will take place in a unique place in the world: Passeig de Gràcia, from its confluence with Aragón Street until reaching Plaça Catalunya, where the F1 Fan Village will be installed. The latter used to be located in the Port Vell area, but will now move to the heart of the city for an even more impressive experience.
The exhibition will have a VIP grandstand in front of Casa Batlló and pits to keep the cars participating in the event. A chicane will be installed between Consell de Cent and Diputació to reduce the speed of the cars for safety reasons, while they are expected to perform impressive maneuvers such as “donuts” on the Gran Vía and the Ronda Universitat.
In Plaça Catalunya, where the finish line will be, commentator positions will be located for the television stations covering the event, as well as a Fan Zone, a Gastronomic Zone and a stage for promotional events during the week before the race.
One of the teams that will be present in the Fan Zone is Williams, which joins others to display their F1 show-cars. The organization of the event is in charge of Gemma Bassa, responsible for institutional relations of the Circuit, who leads this ambitious project that seeks to evoke the spirit of the Barcelona 92 ??Olympic Games.
To carry out this unique experience, various production companies have been called, and it is estimated that the cost of the event could be around one million euros, financed by the city council.
In addition, the Circuit is working to improve access to the venue during the race weekend, with the creation of an “accredited lane” on the main access roads, inspired by the logistics implemented during the Olympic Games. A large influx of fans is expected, which promises an exciting and adrenaline-filled weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
