Among the many vehicles on the market, when buying a car, Spanish users have a clear favorite: the Dacia Sandero. The Romanian manufacturer’s low-cost model has already managed to lead the ranking of passenger car sales in our country in 2023. And now it is again at the top of the list in the first quarter of 2024, according to data from the dealer federation (Faconauto ).
Between January and March of this year, 237,565 passenger cars were sold in our country. Of those, 7,161 were of the Dacia Sandero model, one of the most economical and competitive sedans on the market. It is closely followed by the Toyota Corolla (6,187). Completing the podium is the Nissan Qashqai (6,175).
By brands, the first quarter is almost unquestionably led by Toyota. The Japanese brand registered 23,043 passenger cars. In second position is the Spanish manufacturer Seat, with 16,022 units sold. The bronze medal goes to Korean Kia, with 15,949 vehicles sold.
In fourth position, we find the French company Peugeot, with 15,691 sales between January and March. Fifth place goes to Volkswagen (14,509). Hyundai is narrowly in sixth place, with 14,252 units. Renault follows, with 12,843 cars. Dacia, Citroën and the German BMW occupy the last three positions in the top 10 best sellers.
Despite the leadership of the Dacia Sandero, March has not been a good month for vehicle sales. Registrations of passenger cars and SUVs in Spain reached 94,840 units in March, 4.71% less compared to the 99,524 vehicles sold in the third month of 2023.
This record represents the first drop since December 2022, due to the effect of Holy Week, according to data from the associations of manufacturers (Anfac), dealers (Faconauto) and sellers (Ganvam).
These organizations attribute the decrease in the month of March to the seasonal effect of this period, which has caused there to be two fewer business days, since last year this holiday was celebrated in April.
However, annual sales remain positive. In the first quarter of 2024, car deliveries in the Spanish market stood at 244,879 units, which represents an interannual progression of 3.1% compared to the 237,563 units recorded in the same period of 2023.
