“We will exceed ten million tourists, for sure,” said this summer Nuria Montes, then general secretary of the Hosbec hotel association and current Minister of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism. The then regional Secretary of Tourism, Francesc Colomer, pointed out that if If the positive trend that had marked the first months of that year was maintained, it could be expected that 2023 would close “with the arrival of 9.9 million international tourists.”
Today the figures confirm that that optimism was justified, since the total number of foreign tourists who have visited the Valencian Community have been 10,491,985 tourists, 21.77% compared to the previous year. This is the best figure for international tourist arrivals and the best in terms of spending in the month of December in the region in the historical series, since these travelers have spent 12,574.84 million euros in the region, a 24.46%.
The figures published today by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) show that the Valencian Community received a total of 714,043 international tourists during the month of December, which represents an increase of 38.96% compared to the same month of the previous year, with an expense of 836.57 million, 41.17% more.
On average, each tourist who visited the community spent 104 euros per day in December, 5.57% more than the same month of the previous year, and stayed 11.23 days in Comunitat Valenciana. In total, the average expenditure per person stood at 1,172 euros, 1.6% more than in December of the previous year.
