CC.OO., the majority union in the financial sector, yesterday requested guarantees for the workforce in the merger between BBVA and Banc Sabadell, especially in a context of record results and excellent remuneration for shareholders.

The union sections of CC.OO. At BBVA and Sabadell, where they are the first and second force, respectively, they demanded that, if this operation finally materializes, a labor agreement be articulated that protects the working conditions and employment of the two staff. Among other measures, employment guarantees will be requested, voluntary departures in the last case, preservation and improvement of salary conditions.

On the other hand, they pointed out that regulators and supervisors must demand sufficient guarantees so that this type of operations do not further exacerbate the problems derived from concentration, exclusion and lack of competition.

In 2021, Sabadell carried out a major personnel adjustment with 1,600 departures from the company and, that same year, BBVA applied an ERE for 3,000 workers.
