The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) is implementing actions to strengthen road safety in the Balearic Islands. They recently reported the installation of seven new radars that will be located in Mallorca, four, and Ibiza, three. Thus, the total number of speed control devices in the region will increase to 61.

According to the information provided by the DGT, the new radars are scheduled to be implemented during the course of this year, although an exact date for their start-up has not yet been specified. However, the locations and sections that these devices will cover are known.

Of the four radars that will be implemented on the island of Mallorca, three of them will be section radars, a first for the island. The fixed radar will be installed on the Ma-20, near the Estadi Balear. As for the three sections, they will be located in:

In Ibiza, the three radars that will be installed are added to the 14 that are already fixed on the island. They will be fixed and will be located at the following points:

Section radars, which arrived on Spanish roads in 2010, are, as defined by the DGT itself, “devices present on motorways, highways and conventional roads” that can cover several kilometers in length. Furthermore, these devices have the peculiarity that they do not limit themselves to capturing instantaneous images, but rather they record continuously, recording the license plate of each vehicle when entering and leaving the section.
