A bicycle is one of the simplest, most practical and easy-to-use means of transportation to move around the city and also through nature. Furthermore, most cyclists will agree that their bicycle is never “just” any bicycle, since a special bond is usually created with this tireless vehicle capable of taking us almost everywhere. That is why, when traveling abroad, the homesickness can often be insurmountable.
To solve this problem and so that transporting the bike is not a hassle, the company Firefly has invented a lightweight detachable vehicle that also fits in a suitcase. But we are not referring to just any sports bag, but to an elegant cabin suitcase originating from the prestigious Louis Vuitton. Nobody said that bicycles and luxury were at odds.
It is called Titanium Mini Velo and, for now, it is a unique example, designed by the brand for one of its renowned clients, Ming Thein, a businessman, photographer and founder of the watch brand Ming Watches. Apart from being a cycling enthusiast who cannot travel without his two-wheeled vehicle, he is a prodigy in Physics because at only 13 years old he was admitted to Harvard University, where he graduated at the age of 16.
Firefly specializes in fully customized bicycles. Each machine that leaves the factory is unique and tailored to the needs, requirements and budget of the owner and is designed in close collaboration with that customer.
The Titanium Mini Velo is a bike that is made to last a lifetime. Its main feature is that it can be disassembled like a puzzle, so it can be stored perfectly inside the aforementioned suitcase. In this case, it is a copy of Rimowa, a brand owned by Louis Vuitton that is known for its high quality, durability and excellence. It must be taken into account that the aforementioned owner Ming Thein is a fan of the firm’s briefcases.
The bike has custom geometry and gearing. A certain rigidity has been sought with the small wheels, but the long carbon fiber reinforced seat post adds greater comfort and dynamics inspired by a racing bike.
The components are top quality. It has a custom 3D printed fork, the carbon fiber wheels are one piece and are associated with Michelin BMX Racing Line Tubeless Ready (TLR) tires and DT Swiss brakes.
Weight reduction was a goal in the design of this machine, as was its performance. The result is a unique bicycle that is at the same time attractive, surprising and of extremely high quality.
As we have already indicated, Firefly does not produce mass-produced bicycles, but rather fully customized designs. Thus, prices range between 7,000 and 13,000 euros for a mechanical bicycle, and from 11,000 for one with electric assistance.
