The Spanish Tourism Institute (Turespaña), through the Ministry of Tourism in Milan, will be the official sponsor of one of the great classics of world cycling, Milano-Sanremo, whose 114th edition will be held on March 18 in Abbiategrasso, town on the outskirts of Milan, to finish at the traditional finish line of Via Roma in San Remo, after 294 kilometres.
Through sponsorship of ‘La Classicissima’, carried out in collaboration with the Junta de Andalucía y Turismo de la Comunidad Valenciana, Turespaña seeks to bring cycling lovers closer to the wide range of cycling tourism in Spain.
At the start and finish of the race, information points will be set up that will allow the public to discover all the cycling tourism proposals of the main Spanish destinations and, especially, those of Andalusia and the Valencian Community.
Likewise, an important communication campaign will be carried out with a presence on the web and in the written press, with a dedicated page in the ‘bookroad’ of the race and with an important role and great visibility on television of the logos in all sections of the route.
With this marketing action, Turespaña “continues to improve the positioning in Italy of a high-value tourist offer”, which offers unique and personalized experiences linked to active and nature tourism, geographically diversifying arrivals, as well as a better temporal distribution of trips to Spain throughout the year, “as a sign of the commitment to the sustainability of Spanish tourism.
The Valencian Community has more than 100 kilometers of trails with 119 marked routes, including themes, equipment and services for cyclists (from rental to bicycle repair) as well as cities designed for those who move on two wheels.
Andalusia is a paradise for cycling, with numerous protected areas and a spectacular natural heritage and with beautiful mountain routes such as the Transandalus, more than 2,000 kilometers in a circular route, which goes from the mountain to the plain, from the beach to the desert. in a day of pedaling. In summer Sierra Nevada is transformed into a huge Bike Park with more than 30 kilometers of marked trails.
Spain is a reference destination for cycling tourism thanks to its geographical diversity, its good climate and the presence of routes and itineraries suitable for everyone.
The 53 Biosphere Reserves, the 16 National Parks and all the signposted itineraries, such as the Camino de Santiago, make Spain a ‘bike-friendly’ country, which offers accommodation dedicated to those who move on two wheels, especially present in the island of Mallorca, in the Canary Islands and in the Pyrenees, and services specifically designed for cyclists such as bicycle video surveillance, washing area, special menus for athletes and bicycle rental.
There are innumerable cycling routes throughout the territory and among which the Vías Verdes stand out, more than 3,200 kilometers of old railway lines transformed into itineraries with 120 available routes and different distances; the Nature Trails, more than 10,300 kilometers of nature trails between canals, transhumance routes and trails; EuroVelo itineraries, specifically number 8 that goes from Cádiz to Athens, with a distance of approximately 5,400 kilometres.
In addition to these itineraries, Spain has multiple trails and rural roads and all the routes of the Camino de Santiago that can also be traveled by bicycle; Among them, the Camino del Cid stands out, which crosses Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Aragón and the Valencian Community.
