A Polish defense contractor has recently opened a Patriot missile launch tube plant in eastern Poland. The facility, located in Deblin, has already begun production, with the first order well underway. However, export approval is still pending, according to reports from TVP World citing Military Aviation Works 1 (WZL1), a unit of the state-owned defense entity Polish Armaments Group.
The US government and Lockheed Martin have both certified the facility for commercial production of the components. The plant’s director, Bartłomiej Kacperczyk, mentioned that the demand for the launch tubes is high, indicating a potential increase in production. They are expecting an annual output of 150 launch tubes.
This new plant is part of an offset agreement between the Polish government and Lockheed Martin for the Wisla program, which amounts to $4.75 billion. The Wisla program, initiated in 2018, involves the procurement of multiple Patriot air and missile defense systems. Last year, Poland finalized a deal to purchase up to 48 Patriot Advanced Capability – 3 (PAC-3) launchers and 644 PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) missiles from the US.
