Lamborghini opens a new chapter in its history with the Urus SE, the first plug-in hybrid version of its SUV, which has been presented at the Volkswagen Group Media Night, before the opening to the public of the 2024 Beijing Motor Show. This PHEV version (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) presents a new design, optimized aerodynamics and a propulsion system with a total power of 800 HP.
The 4.0 biturbo V8 engine with 620 HP and 800 Nm has been redesigned to work in combination with the electric one, which provides 192 HP (141 kW) and 483 Nm of torque. The 25.7 kWh lithium-ion battery, which has been mounted under the boot floor, allows you to travel up to 60 kilometers in 100% electric mode. With this autonomy, in Spain the car will enjoy the 0 Emissions label from the DGT. Thus, we are faced with a new case of a super-powerful internal combustion car with the advantages of a sustainable one without the guarantee that its owner really makes ecological use of it. This is the eternal complaint of the OCU regarding the criteria for granting environmental badges.
With a top speed of 312 km/h, the Urus SE can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds and reach 200 km/h from a standstill in just 11.4 seconds. All these figures make it the most powerful version of this SUV in history.
On an aesthetic level, the front features a hood with a floating design, without the cut line, reminiscent of some stylistic concepts of the Revuelto. Also new are the headlights that incorporate matrix LED technology, introducing a totally new light signature inspired by the tail of the bull of the Lamborghini brand, along with a redesigned bumper and front grille.
At the rear, the trunk lid has been completely redefined, with a continuity inspired by the Gallardo that harmonizes the lines by connecting the rear light groups with “Y” lights and the new rear diffuser, which gives the vehicle even proportions. more sporty. Aerodynamics is one of the aspects that have prevailed in the design of this plug-in hybrid.
The Urus SE offers a wide range of customization options, also for the interior. The dashboard has a larger central screen – now 12.3 inches – and redesigned air vents. In the center of the console, the “tamburo” selector allows you to choose the different driving modes (Strada, Sport and Corsa -for road and circuit- and Neve, Sabbia and Terra -for surfaces with a grip other than asphalt-), which They are combined with four new driving options (EV Drive, Hybrid, Performance and Recharge).
The EV Drive system allows the driver to experiment and fully exploit the electric potential. Specially developed and calibrated for urban driving, it offers more than 60 km of electric range and reaches a maximum speed of 130 km/h. Above this speed, the V8 engine automatically supports the electric motor, in the same way as if the engine torque demands exceed the maximum available from the electric motor.
Hybrid can be selected when driving in Strada mode, providing maximum efficiency and comfort along with an optimal balance between the combustion engine and electric motor, making it the most versatile option for daily driving. Recharge, which can be selected in Strada, Sport, Corsa and Neve modes, recharges up to 80% of the battery while maintaining optimal performance. The Performance option is the choice for those who want to appreciate the full potential of the Urus SE, not only in Strada, Sport and Corsa modes, but also in Sabbia and Terra, highlighting the dynamic qualities of the Super SUV, even beyond the asphalt.
Depending on the driving mode selected, the vehicle’s pneumatic shock absorbers adjust their ground clearance, with travel ranging from 15 mm in Corsa to 75 mm when the lift system is activated. The parameters that adjust the steering, drivability and sound of the twin-turbo V8 are also variable, which is reflected in the “personality” of the Urus SE. Special attention has been paid to the calibration of the air suspension system to enhance each driving mode.
In Strada, development work has improved the already high level of comfort of the Urus S. Sport mode injects even more fun into driving, improving the characteristics of the new transmission to make it easier to start and continue a slide.
In Corsa, the mode designed expressly for track driving, the Urus SE expresses its full dynamic potential. This is due in part to the ECU/suspension electronics, which controls chassis movements (pitch, yaw and roll) to make the vehicle extremely stable and responsive between the curbs of a race track, as well as on difficult surfaces. and low grip, thanks to the stabilizer bars managed by the 48v electronic system.
Neve, Sabbia and Terra modes have been optimized to maximize wheel travel and consistency of ground forces for the best traction on any surface.
