A 36-year-old man named Moises Duarte from San Diego was tragically killed in a stabbing incident in the Grant Hill neighborhood last week. Police found him with stab wounds and head trauma after reports of a fight near 27th Street and L Street on Friday at 4:46 p.m. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Duarte did not survive.
It was discovered that the victim and one of the suspects had a previous altercation related to vandalism at the same location a month ago. Although the initial fight was reported to the police, the vandalism was not. When the two men encountered each other again on Friday, the altercation escalated.
During the fight, the suspect’s vehicle was damaged with a rock and a bat, leading to it crashing into a pole. A father, Emilio Torres Valencia, and his 17-year-old son were arrested at the scene. While Valencia was treated for his injuries at the hospital and then taken into custody, his son was sent to juvenile hall. Both suspects have been released as charges are pending until the investigation is completed.
The victim’s 15-year-old son was also present during the incident, but he has not been charged and was released to his mother. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the case to contact the Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
It is a tragic event that resulted in the loss of life, and the investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the stabbing. The community is urged to come forward with any information that may assist in bringing justice for Moises Duarte and his family. Violence of any kind has no place in our neighborhoods, and it is essential that those responsible are held accountable for their actions. Let us all work together to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in our community.
