The Mallorcan Mavi García (LIV Racing TeqFind) conquered this Saturday in the Madrid town of San Lorenzo de El Escorial her fifth Spanish road cycling champion title -fourth in a row-, after finishing first a demanding 122-kilometre and two-thousand meters of accumulated positive slope.
Mavi García, who in the previous day was runner-up in the individual time trial, showed her favoritism on the road with a race that she controlled from the start. She first formed part of the peloton until there were seventy kilometers left, at which time she broke away with three other cyclists, and then with a solo break with less than thirty that made her reach the finish line unopposed.
With this title, Mavi García expands a list of winners that already included four other Spanish championships in 2016, 2020, 2021 and 2022.
The second at the finish line was Sara Martín (Movistar), who was proclaimed runner-up, while the third place on the podium went to Mireia Benito (AG Insurance – Soudal Quick-Step), who won the individual time trial the previous day.
The participants covered a 122.6-kilometre route starting and finishing in San Lorenzo de El Escorial and which also crossed the municipalities of Valdemorillo, Navalagamella, Colmenar del Arroyo, Robledo de Chavela, Fresnedillas de la Oliva, Zarzalejo and Peralejo. During the route they climbed the Alto de la Cruz Verde, which was crowned about 35 kilometers from the finish line with an average slope of 4.5%, with two kilometers above six percent, and the Bosque de la Herrería, a protected area by Patrimonio Nacional, which took the runners to La Lonja del Real Monasterio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial, home of the finish line.
In the sub-23 category the victory went to Eneritz Vadillo, followed by Idoia Eraso and Susana Pérez, third.
