The latest Maserati to receive the three-electric motor powertrain is the GranCabrio. which comes with a phenomenal power of 761 HP and a maximum torque of 1,350 Nm to mark a milestone. And we are looking at the fastest electric convertible in the world, powered by one motor in the front and two in the rear (all without emissions), which provide traction to all four wheels.
With a design very similar to the 2 2-seater coupe variant, this convertible (also 2 2) features a more robust rear tray and reinforced sills. Not to be overlooked is that it weighs almost 100 kg more than its hardtop brother. Despite this, it is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in only 2.8 seconds, a figure that very few even internal combustion cars could dream of.
The new GranCabrio Folgore is the third member of the electrified “family”, after the GranTurismo Folgore and the Grecale Folgore and, although it may not seem like it, all three have similar bases. And they all derive from the modified Giorgio platform, originally from Alfa Romeo and which has been used in various models of the Stellantis group.
This new electric car has a soft top that comes in five different shades (named Nero, Blue Marine, Grigio Titan, Greige and Granata). After being activated, it takes only 14 seconds to fully open. This operation can be carried out while traveling at a maximum speed of 50 km/h.
Although some data has not yet been officially made public, its features also include a maximum speed of 290 km/h. Analyzing this record, Maserati ensures that the GranCabrio Folgore is the fastest production electric convertible in the world.
Once inside the GranCabrio Folgore and without losing its classic style, clear touches of sophistication can also be seen, such as the presence of three digital screens. One of them is the driver’s instrumentation, another is dedicated to the infotainment system and the third, just below the previous one, integrates the touch controls for the vehicle’s climate control.
Regarding the autonomy of this electric car, it should be noted that it will mount the 83 kWh useful capacity battery that the GranTurismo Folgore also incorporates and that allows the latter to travel around 450 kilometers with each recharge. Taking into account that the new convertible version is somewhat heavier, it is most likely that its range will be slightly lower.
The trunk capacity of this Maserati novelty is 151 liters in normal conditions and 114 liters when traveling with the top down. It is clear that this is not one of its strong points, although it is common in most convertible models.
